The AGM was helmed by AAS’s President, Mr Bernard Tay, who reviewed the transformative milestones of the past year and shared future plans of the Association.
Adapting to Challenges, Embracing Innovation
Mr Tay’s opening address began by acknowledging the unprecedented challenges that AAS and its members had faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which in-person events were prohibited. Despite this, this period proved to be an opportunity for innovation and finding new ways to connect. Mr Tay is grateful for the opportunity to share the milestones and achievements of the past years that have shaped our collective efforts.
This innovative streak continues in the Association’s endeavours to meet the dynamic needs of its members and the automotive landscape. “This continual process of transformation involves refining our membership offerings, enhancing services, and pursuing strategic acquisitions, all aimed at enriching our members’ experiences,” said Mr Tay.
As part of this transformation, substantial improvements have been made to engage members, with a focus on enhancing digital infrastructure to provide a secure and convenient experience. Key developments include a revamp of the AAS website to implement the latest security protocols, user education on best practices, and the adoption of two-factor authentication security measures. The updated AAS website also offers a user-friendly interface and streamlined navigation.
In addition, enhancements were made to the Association’s Customer Relationship Management system, optimising performance and integration with other platforms, thus further improving the user experience. Cybersecurity measures to safeguard AA Members against potential threats were bolstered through Cybersecurity Awareness sessions and employee engagement.
Mr Tay took the opportunity to thank the Committee Members who had helped to guide the Management through the process. “Your unwavering support and insightful guidance have been invaluable in navigating these transformative changes,” he added.

Together with esteemed partners such as the Traffic Police, Land Transport Authority, Ministry of Education, and People’s Association, AA Singapore participates annually in the Singapore Road Safety Month (SRSM) to raise awareness about road safety issues. Last July, AA Singapore helped to raise awareness about speeding and jaywalking hazards.
AA Singapore set up an educational booth on 1–2 June this year and delivered a talk about blind spot awareness and the importance of safe driving speeds at an SRSM event. Held at the Toa Payoh Hub Mall, it was themed ‘Road Safety Begins With You and Me’.

Effective Alliances
AA Singapore serves more than 50,000 members, offering services beyond motoring needs such as road safety training and fun member experiences such as AutoventureTM. This is part of AA Singapore’s goal to be a trusted partner in all aspects of its Members’ journeys, providing reliable support and solutions that extend beyond traditional motoring assistance.
In 2023, AA Singapore’s mechanics and tow crews responded to over 16,000 roadside assistance requests despite a 47% increase in phone calls, leading to occasional manpower shortages and longer queues. Despite these challenges, AA Singapore prioritised Members’ needs and worked diligently to provide timely assistance.
To overcome these challenges, AA Singapore established strategic partnerships with reputable third-party providers, ensuring continued high service standards and efficient member assistance, especially during peak periods.
Autoventure™ Achievements

Leadership Transition
As AA Singapore navigates a period of leadership transition, Mr Tay extended his heartfelt gratitude to all involved for their unwavering support. “Just as political stability is vital for a nation’s progress, stable leadership transitions within AAS are essential to uphold operational continuity, implement strategic initiatives, and maintain Member’s trust and satisfaction,” he said. “The pandemic has further complicated this process, adding unprecedented challenges and delays. Despite these hurdles, the collaborative spirit and dedication of our community have been remarkable.”

On a related note, Mr Tay expressed his gratitude to all the other Resource Panel Members for volunteering their time and expertise to assist AA Singapore.
Additionally, AA Singapore is actively introducing younger talents into the General Committee. This move ensures agility and responsiveness to emerging trends, fosters a seamless transition to the next generation of leaders within the Association, and maintains its position at the forefront of automotive services and Member’s engagement.
In closing, Mr Tay reiterated his appreciation for the General Committee Members, Resource Panel Members, AA Management and staff, and AA Members for their patience and resilience during this period, whose support helped maintain the momentum of AAS’ operations. “I am confident that, with your continued dedication and unwavering commitment, AA Singapore will not only navigate this transition, but also emerge stronger and more resilient,” assured Mr Tay. “Together, we will continue to uphold our values, meet future challenges head-on, and achieve new milestones in our journey.”
Following Mr Tay’s speech, the meeting proceeded with the AGM resolutions and Mr Tay excused himself before the agenda item to elect six members to the committee for the ensuing term as he is an Interested Party, and handed over the Chairmanship to Mr Low Beng Tin, Vice President. As 8 valid nominations were received at the close of the nomination date on 17 May 2024, Members were required to vote. Each member eligible to vote received a voting card and cast their vote by placing it in the ballot box. The following six nominees namely Mr. Bernard Tay, Mr. Wong Siew Hong, Mr. Alvin Phua, Prof. Tay Boon Keng, Mr. Thomas Yeoh Eng Leong, and Mr. Darryl Wee, were elected to the committee.
The voting process was conducted by Messers Lo Hock Ling & Co, as the auditors, CitadelCorp, the independent scrutineers, and Drew & Napier, as the independent legal advisor.
AA Singapore received 1 any other business (AOB) as of 5pm on 20 May 2024 from Mr Loe. Mr Loe wrote in his concern about the increase in waiting time for roadside assistance as compared to the 80s and 90s as well as the sufficiency of staffing and resources deployed.
Deputy President, Mr Low addressed concerns about roadside assistance wait times, aiming for a response time of 1 to 1.5 hours and achieving 45 minutes to 1 hour during normal periods while acknowledging occasional delays. He attributed longer waiting time to increased vehicles and technological complexities since the 1990s. Priority is member service and staff safety, utilising fleet and partners during peak times. AA Singapore has been actively reviewing staffing and resources allocation to optimise service levels amid growing membership. While AA Singapore continues to recruit, the Association is committed to improving the operational capacity to better meet members’ needs.
Chairman Low thanked Mr Loe for his feedback, which helps in our ongoing efforts to enhance our service delivery.
