Smart Driving Challenge

2 min read
It’s not how fast you drive — it’s how smart you drive that matters in this challenge.

On 23 April 2019, AA Singapore launched the inaugural FIA-AA Singapore Smart Driving Challenge 2019, which is open to all AA Members. Organised with the Federation internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) — better known for being the governing body for Formula One and other motorsport events — the Smart Driving Challenge is one of the organisation’s latest initiatives to promote safe and eco-friendly driving.

In this challenge, drivers compete to be the smartest driver, and the Top Driver in Singapore wins the Grand Prize of a return ticket to Paris, 4D3N accommodation, and a ticket to attend the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony 2019.

The competition takes place in your own car, and is about one’s everyday driving behaviour. All it takes is a smartphone and plugging in an OBD II Device in your car (compatible with most cars manufactured after 2001). Data from your drives will be evaluated by a digital platform using artificial intelligence. Each drive is measured in real time, and scoring is based on safety, eco driving, and energy efficiency.

“It’s a first-of-its-kind challenge, where drivers are competing to be the smartest driver — not necessarily the fastest — because the smarter you drive, the higher your score,” explains Mr Kenn Liu, General Manager of AAS Academy. “It is a great way to understand your own driving behaviour through trip feedback at the end of your drive, and learn from tips on how to improve on your next drive.”

The challenge is limited to 100 AA Members, and registration closes on 28 June 2019. It takes place from 15 July–13 October 2019. AAS Academy will be offering bespoke training to all participants to enhance their smart driving skills. To participate, your AA Membership must be valid throughout the period of the challenge.
