So maybe you have cast your lot in the annual battle royale to secure those coveted NDP tickets and come up short, or the idea of squeezing with the crowds at the Padang during the parade turns you off. Fret no more, here are alternative suggestions you can explore to celebrate Singapore’s 58th birthday and you might still get the chance to catch some of those gorgeous fireworks while you are at it.

Head to the Heartlands
The 2023 National Day celebrations will head to the heartlands to allow members of the public a chance to experience the pomp and pageantry up close in their estates, providing an alternative to the parade proper at the Padang. In line with this year’s theme, “Onward as One”, it is certainly fitting to bring the celebrations closer to people’s homes as a way to unify and forge a sense of community. Expect fun activities such as carnivals, live performances and sports tryouts amidst other celebrative events co-organised with Sport Singapore held at five neighbourhood stadiums in Bedok, Jurong West, Toa Payoh, Woodlands and Tampines over the weekend just before 9 August.

More details will follow in due course at the official NDP 2023 website here, so watch that space!

As part of their National Day tie-in, Science Centre Singapore is offering a Galaxy Reward National Day Promotion during which visitors will be able to redeem a $5 NTUC FairPrice Group Gift Voucher with a minimum purchase of two Science Centre tickets in a single receipt.

A Look Back in Time
As we look forward as a young nation, it pays to also look back and explore Singapore’s past. Why not pay a visit to the various heritage institutions and museums scattered across the country during this National Day, and appreciate how far we have come since the days of Temasek to that of a former colony and to the bustling metropolis we are today. What’s more, Singapore citizens and permanent residents enjoy free admission to the National Heritage Board’s national museums and heritage institutions all year round, so take the opportunity to organise a family trip to remember.
