Celebrating Father’s Day

4 min read
Make Dad feel extra special on this day by spending quality time with him.

Every year, Father’s Day falls on the third Sunday of June. Celebrated worldwide, it’s a day that recognises the contributions that fathers and father figures make towards the lives of their children.

To show your appreciation to dear ol’ Dad for the positive impact he’s made on your life, why not go beyond just taking him out for a nice meal? Why not spend Father’s Day on activities that he would find interesting? Below is a smorgasbord of ideas to cater for dads with different tastes.

NEED FOR SPEED
If Dad loves motorsports and has always felt that he can handle an F1 vehicle, he can test his driving skills without any physical danger at the AA Centre, where there is an area set up for Digital Racing. Here, racing enthusiasts can compete against each other in more than just one format: besides F1 Grand Prix, there are IronMan Endurance, Hot Lapping Contests, and many more that you can select from. You can also set the level of driving skill, from novice to pro! AA Members get preferential rates for the use of these Digital Racing modules, while there is a special promotion going on for non-members.

  • AA Member: $9/hour
  • Non-Member: $15/hour (Usual: $29/hour)

BUILD SOMETHING
If Dad enjoys working with his hands, bring out the nails, tools and paint, and see if there’s a construction project the both of you could tackle together — perhaps paint a piece of furniture a snazzy colour, build a bookshelf, or simply put together a Lego design. Whichever venture you embark on, you would have created something memorable with your father.

LEND A HAND
Turn time spent with Dad into something even more meaningful by helping out in the community. The two of you can volunteer for one of Habitat for Humanity’s projects, do a shift with a food bank (eg Food from the Heart), or donate blood. Check out volunteer.sg for more such opportunities.

THROW A PIZZA PARTY
Throw Dad a homemade pizza party. Make sure you have all his favourite toppings available as he and the grandkids have fun rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty. For a local twist, you could do a popiah or kueh pie tee jamboree instead. It is the perfect gift for a foodie father.

SET UP A DAD OLYMPICS
Is Dad competitive? Then set up a competition. Dad and the children can face off against each other in fun games like Frisbee-throwing or three-legged races. Younger kids can decorate the game props with Father’s Day wishes and pictures. The friendly contest will bring on lots of laughs and build some solid memories.

SPEND THE DAY IN A WATER PARKCool off in one of our water parks. One of the largest in Singapore, Wild Wild Wet in Pasir Ris, promises a day of thrills and spills for the whole family. Another option is Adventure Cove in Sentosa. Here, the kids can enjoy the slides and water coasters while Dad bobs more calmly along the river in a float. It’ll be a day of fun for the entire family.

BOOK A GROOMING SESSION

If Dad is particular about style and grooming, book him a luxurious haircut or professional shave. Truefitt & Hill Singapore, Jermyn Street, and Sultans of Shave are a few fancy grooming places you can send him to. In fact, Jermyn Street offers a Father-and-Son haircut package, while LA Barbershop includes a face massage in its deal. Watch Dad emerge from the salon looking like a dandy!

SPA DAY

Perhaps Dad is a senior who prefers nothing more strenuous than a relaxing day at the spa, and getting his sore muscles pampered by all sorts of relaxing treatments. Book him a Hot Stone Therapy session, during which heated stones are placed on his acu-pressure points. This form of therapy is offered at Atos Wellness, and AA Members get special privileges! For appointment, please call 6841 9926 or log on to https://atoswellness.com.sg/22F082/ to e-book. For more information, click here.

SAILING THE HIGH SEAS

Another relaxing treat for the older Dad is spending the day on a yacht. As he sits back and takes in the sun and the sea in the company of close friends and family, he will surely forget about the cares back on land. White Sails Yacht offers private yacht chartering packages for various group sizes to Lazarus Island, all of which comes with complimentary anchor off Eagle Bay, two kayaks, two snorkel kits, two fishing rods (excluding bait) and one floating mat. AA Members enjoy 20% off a four-hour sail on a private yacht. Call 8661 7600 or email enquiry@whitesails.com.sg to make your booking. For more information, click here.
