Supercharged models get the adrenaline pumping behind the wheel. These three sports-tuned cars aim to thrill at any speed.
BMW M4 COMPETITION COUPE
When BMW tags an M to a car, it means something. With regard to the BMW M4 Competition Coupe, it generally means uncompromising dynamics with M-design features and performance-targeted power unit.
Appearance
Standing still, the M4 Competition Coupe already looks like a hundred miles per hour. Large vertical BMW kidney grille sporting the M-typical and horizontally arranged double slats. Combine with pronounced wheel arches, it provides a muscular stance. The stare of conviction is further enhanced with flared side sills with contrasting high-gloss block finish and a carbon-reinforced plastic (CRP) roof, a standard in all variants of the new BMW M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive.
The car’s lights see noticeable upgrades with adaptive LED headlights and LED taillights that feature laser technology. The surface of both the BMW logo and the M logo at the rear adds further accents for sophisticated elegance.
Performance
As sharp as the car looks, it shines even brighter under the hood. The M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive boasts a straight six-cylinder power unit that combines the high-revving characteristics of BMW M GmbH with the current version of M TwinPower Turbo Technology. The engine has an extremely stiff, forged crankshaft, with cylinder lines iron-coated in an arc wire spraying process (AWSP). This results in optimisation in both weight and temperature management. Maximum power output is increased to 530hp at 6250rpm realised through a modification of the engine control system. The M-typical package comprises more than just a ramped-up engine but also includes enhancements in power transmission and suspension technology. The rear-wheel biased system works in conjunction with a fully variable Active M differential in the rear, with the intelligent four-wheel drive M xDrive offering the typical M feeling during cornering. Agility and response are further improved with high torsional stiffness in the body structure and model-specific body struts.
Features
Assistance systems for the M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive include Front Collision Warning with brake intervention, Lane Departure Warning including Lane Return Function with steering assistance, and Cruise Control with braking. Parking Assistant Plus helps with entering and leaving spaces, and also includes Surround view system and Reversing Assistant as a standard.
The experience in the cockpit does not get neglected. Advanced digitalisation is prevalent within the 12.3-inch display behind the steering wheel and a 14.9-inch control monitor. The display and operating systems are based on the BMW Operating System 8.5, and includes BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
BMW Heads-Up Display, BMW Live Cockpit Professional with two USB ports, wireless network interface, and Smartphone integration further enhances in-car connectivity and convenience. And the high-end Harman Kardon surround sound system with 16 sound source and a 464W power amplifier is standard fare to make sure the souped-up driving experience is accompanied by the thrill of your favourite tunes.

MERCEDES-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ COUPE
The new Mercedes-AMG CLE 4Matic+ Coupe aims to sharpen Mercedes’ entry-level performance coupe segment, and it does so with aplomb. This two-door model straddles the best of two worlds – the sportiness of the C-Class with the status and luxury of the E.
Appearance
The long hood embedded in the front end with two powerful power domes exemplifies the performance coupe and is made sportier with a sloping windshield and elongated roof that slopes towards the rear. The front section, known affectionately as the “shark nose”, ensures a sporty and elegant façade that culminates in the AMG-specific A-shaped radiator grille and the flat, sharply cut full-LED headlights create a particularly powerful impression.
Performance
At the heart of the matter is the three-litre six-cylinder in-line engine, with double charging via an exhaust gas turbocharger, and an electric additional compressor that has been modified to produce 330kW (449hp)and a maximum torque of 560 Nm (with overboost 600Nm for 12 seconds). The integrated starter generator briefly supplies an additional 17kW (23hp) of power and 205 Nm of torque and feeds the 48-volt on-board electrical system. Both the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive are additional icing on the cake.
As a performance coupe, the engine is a main focal point, and the three-litre M 256 inline six-cylinder turbo engine offers optimised combustion chambers with redesigned inlet and outlet channels, new piston rings, optimised injection, and a new exhaust gas turbocharger. Fuel consumption is improved with the second-generation integrated starter generator (ISG), being now integrated into the gearbox bell housing, contributing to efficiency.
As a central component of the 48V electrical system, it not only functions as an electrical generator but also takes on hybrid functions. These include short-term boosting with 17kW (23hp) of power and 205Nm of torque, recuperation, load point shifting, sailing and the restart of the engine during the start-stop function.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission impresses with adapted shift times, quick reactions, the double-declutching function, and multiple downshifts, whereby an upshift or downshift is implemented immediately. The fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive combines optimal traction for dynamic driving pleasure with a high level of driving safety under all conditions: on dry roads as well as on wet or slippery surfaces.
Particular attention has been afforded to the driving dynamics, and the car provides AMG Ride Control for more agility, neutral cornering behaviour and higher traction. Adjustable damping can be preselected in three levels: Comfort, Sport and Sport+, adjusting the damping on each wheel to adapt to varying road conditions.
Features
Inside the Coupe, unique equipment, exclusive materials and the latest MBUX infotainment system welcome passengers. A free-standing 12.3-inch fully digital driver display teams with the 11.9-inch driver-oriented centre display that offers dynamic ambient lighting with 64 colours.
Drivers will delight in the flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel with integrated buttons offering a high-level functionality. With brilliant displays and feature intuitive operating logic, it provides greater access and control to important driving functions.

SKODA ENYAQ COUPE RS
As EVs come into the mainstream of car buyers’ psyche, we cannot talk about high-performance vehicles without mentioning one. The Skoda Enyaq Coupe RS is that 100-per cent electric car that can generate as much exhilaration from its power, as it evokes emotion through its sustainability stance.
Appearance
Glowing reviews from media outlets in Singapore aside, this is one attractive car that probably looks more like a sports SUV than a full-blooded coupe. The standard full-LED Matrix headlights with high-gloss black frame offer touches of elegance, with the crystal face fitted with 131 LEDs that create a strip connecting the headlights and illuminate the vertical slats located behind a transparent wall.
Performance
Being an EV, the focal point is on the battery. The lithium-ion power pack of the Enyaq Coupe RS puts out 250kW (340PS) and can be fully charged in seven and a half hours (AC). A DC-charge of just 28 minutes lets you travel the full distance of 547km (WLTP) of all-wheel performance.
Features
Apart from being a sports-tuned car, the Enyaq Couple RS has many functional touches that make it a highly usable car every day of the week. A compartment in both front doors allows you to keep that umbrella away without you tripping all over it as you get in and out of the car. Front and rear door panels are designed to house 1.5-litre water bottles. And well-designed pockets at the back of the driver and front passenger seats let you keep your tablets and smartphones away neatly.
The interiors have an RS Lounge design selection with carbon décor and black headliner. Electrically adjustable front seats have memory control. The 13-inch touchscreen infotainment display offers a touch slider, gesture and voice control, while SmartLink lets you connect to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay effortlessly.
The Enyaq Coupe RS is also highly driver-centric, offering a long list of safety and driver assistance features that have earned it a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Front Assist (auto emergency braking) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Assist and Side Assist, Rear-view camera with Park Distance Control (PDC), Cruise Control (ACC), and Driver Alert System helps make sure you get to where you want in one piece.
