Love Is In The Air

3 min read

From heritage buildings to pretty parks, here are eight spots to stoke the romance this Valentine’s Day

Few people associate Singapore’s landscape with romance. But beyond the concrete jungle, there are dreamy spots that’ll have you falling in love all over again.

Chijmes

What could be more romantic than a candlelight concert at this beautiful former convent turned dining destination. Be serenaded by a string quartet playing a romance-inspired programme of music at CHIJMES Hall under the gentle glow of candlelight at Candlelight: Valentine’s Day Special ft. Get swept away by the enchanting Fantasy Overture from Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky and the evergreen As Time Goes by from Casablanca. Round that off with dinner at any one of the restaurants there.

Singapore FlyerEnjoy panoramic views of Marina Bay and the surrounding cityscape while dining at 165 Sky dining. Costing $520 for two, the package includes three rotations in a shared observation ‘capsule’, priority boarding and a four-course dinner.

Hampstead Wetlands Park

Nestled within the Seletar Aerospace Park is Hampstead Wetlands Park. The former marshland has been spruced up so it resembles a pretty English garden with a pond – complete with lily pads. The three-hectare park is filled with different types of plant species. Explore the nature trail and traipse down the boardwalk with your significant other while keeping an eye out for the rare birds that inhabit this part of our island.

Changi Beach Park

One of the oldest coastal parks in Singapore, Changi Beach Park stretches from Changi Point to Changi Ferry Terminal. It has unsullied white beaches dotted with coconut palms, BBQ pits, park benches and shelters. Go for a swim in the sea, jog and cycle along the winding tracks, or simply walk hand in hand along the beach, looking out for sea creatures like the noble volute – a black and orange sea snail – sea cucumbers and hermit crabs.

Mount Faber

Mount Faber offers one of the highest vantage points we have on our island. Climb up to the top of the hill and have a cosy dinner at one of Mount Faber Peak’s two restaurants, Dusk Restaurant & Bar or Arbora Hilltop Garden & Bistro. After that, you can take the cable car to Harbourfront for a scenic route down. Take in jaw-dropping views of the cityscape along the way and try spotting the iconic beaches at Sentosa.

Alkaff Mansion

A popular venue for weddings, it would be remiss of us to leave Alkaff Mansion out of our list. Built in 1918, this bungalow is now home to Wildseed Cafe, 1918 Heritage Bar and Una. Tuck into a five-course Valentine’s Day Dinner and get a complimentary live typewritten poem per couple when you reserve a table.
