Dear AA Members,

Here’s wishing all Hindu friends, a Happy Deepavali. May you and your loved ones enjoy happiness and good health as you celebrate the Festival of Lights.

We are coming to the end of the year 2020, and it has been a year of challenges and uncertainties. The COVID-19 pandemic has compelled us to be better prepared for the future; the Association too, has been adapting to changes, such as providing our services through online platforms. For a start, the Association held its very first Virtual Annual General Meeting (‘AGM’) in September 2020. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all our Members for your attendance, and patience in respect of holding the AGM amidst the current COVID-19 situation. The AGM concluded smoothly, and Members who wish to read more about the virtual AGM in summary, may do so here.

The Association has always been promoting safer roads for all, especially the vulnerable groups, such as young children. In collaboration with Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (‘FIA’), AA participated in the FIA Global Action Campaign, This Is My Street, that aims to provide safe and healthy journeys for young children globally. Pledge Boards have been placed in our outlets at AA Centre and AA@GB Point, in view of reaching out to the community, and engage them to pledge with us in promoting for healthier roads. A photo contest was held over a month, where participants submitted their creative photos surrounding their concept on road health, together with ideas on how the Singapore community can better support road safety. I am pleased to share that 8 winning entries have been selected, and I would like to congratulate the winners again! In addition, the Association has designed an array of road safety posters to be published on our social media – Facebook and Instagram, in view of promoting healthier road journeys for the young children.

As an advocate of road safety, the Association is actively participating and coming up with new initiatives to shape a better and more holistic society. AAS Insurance Agency (‘AAS-IA’) has previously introduced Singapore’s first Commercial Personal Mobility Devices (‘PMD’) Insurance coverage. This policy aims to protect PMD users from costs and expenses that they may incur due to third-party liabilities arising from the negligent use of PMD. Now, PMD users can sign up for a AA Personal Mobility Plus coverage, with added benefits such as a complimentary 1-year Social Membership as well as a PMD & Bicycle Safety Course!

The Association has successfully relocated our 51@AMK outlet to 4190 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6, #03-03 Broadway Plaza, 8 minutes away from the 51@AMK outlet. The new AA @ Broadway Plaza offers new recreational amenities such as lounge area, relaxation corner, as well as a more spacious fruit machine room, with a refreshed look. The new outlet also offers a children road safety circuit, which aims to educate our young road users the importance of road safety. You may also refer to our website for more information on the new AA @ Broadway Plaza.

With our Members’ interests in mind, AA has been organising an array of workshops to better cater to your preferences. From lifestyle workshops, such as Art Jamming and Bicycle Trail, to motoring courses such as Know-Your-Car course and Overseas Safe Driving tips. This year, we have also conducted both online and offline courses, and the Association aims to plan more interesting and relevant workshops moving forward. With Singapore’s borders reopening gradually to allow safe travel in limited numbers, the Association has started our plans for Autoventure (‘AV’) trips for 2021. Members who wish to find out more about our upcoming AV trips may refer to our website.

As Christmas is nearing, I’m delighted to share that families who are keen to build their own Gingerbread House may now join us at our Clay Art Gingerbread House Coin Bank! You might not be able to savour this Gingerbread House, but you can definitely keep this loving memory on display with your loved ones. In addition, the Association is having the Member-Get-Member promotion during this festive period to share your love and joy, where every successful referral will enjoy a 1-year complimentary membership.

On this note, I’d like to wish our Members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ahead.

Best wishes,
Bernard Tay
President, AA Singapore
